With a background in modern linguistics (Leiden University), I have been a language teacher and writing coach since 1981.
Teaching science writing is a great job. I love the variety of topics in my course, the linguistic levels of a research paper, and the attitude of my Ph.D. students. Since April 2016, my course Writing a Scientific Paper also runs online. I discovered that relating to the group and sharing of ideas through e-modules (we do no real-time video conferences) can be as inspiring as in real-life or online classes. Our program is 100% asynchronous and can be followed entirely in your own time and at your own pace.
My educational background is in Egyptology, with a focus on linguistics. I have a bachelor’s degree in linguistics and Egyptology from the Humboldt University in Berlin and a master’s degree in Egyptology from the University of Münster. In my master thesis, I analysed the way verb structure changes over time.
Currently, I assist Annemarie with the online course on scientific writing, mainly by giving students feedback on their work. In the future, I will also be helping to further develop the online course and platform.
